"The Yearling" was commissioned by Spring Creek Elementary School in Paisley, Florida. This mural is based on the book by the same title by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. The school sits on the southern boundary of Ocala National Forest. The classic, beloved novel was written about life in that part of America in the 1800's. I so enjoyed my visit with the charming folks at Spring Creek and I loved painting this mural for them! With this mural, I countinued my newly discovered ability to paint without the use of a projector. I am finding that I really enjoy the process of free handing a mural more than using projected images as guides. Also, this mural features what I consider to be my best treatment of the human figure to date. Perhaps there is a correlation between painting more lifelike humans and getting free of the projector. I still have much to learn, but am feeling like I am on my way...
